Artist Statement:

All art is a reflection of the artist’s total being, “the shining forth of one's interiority” (Mu Xin). Art invites the viewer to engage the work through the matrix of their unique thoughts and feelings; a process that is necessarily subjective, interior, neurological, and biological.

Paintings are not merely visual impressions of shape, color and light; they are material objects in space. We see them not with our eyes, but with our brains. Perception is an active, constructive process, and thus an act of creation by both the artist and viewer. It is the active engagement with, and contemplation of art by both parties that makes it meaningful. Immanuel Kant described the aesthetic response to art as the “free play of the imagination.”

Geometric imagery is a universal language that has been used by many diverse cultures over millennia. My art registers the measured voice of one individual within the pantheon of composers who, over thousands of years, have used the language of geometry to express their embodied conscious experience on the planet at unique moments in space and time.
